Recommendations from the Roundtable "Child Protection & European Funding for mobile populations in Greece: Report and prospects for the future "

Description

On 16 May 2021, a Roundtable organized by a group of NGO's (NGO Advocacy working group): ActionAid, Danish Refugee Council, Defence for Children International Greek forum for refugees, International Rescue Committee, Solidarity Now, Terre des Hommes Hellas, Network for Children's rights, with the support of EPIM and Initiative for Children in Migration. The roundtable's goal was to discuss the issues of the reception system and the perspectives of integration of refugee and migrant children in Greece in the light of European funding. In the spotlight of the discussion were the refugee crisis of 2015 and the struggles and chronic inefficiencies of the Greek system of reception, asylum, including child protection. Among the critical challenges, unaccompanied children face the correct registration of their data by the authorities, the timely arrangement of legal guardianship, the proper accommodation. The roundtable urges the Hellenic Government and the EU to collaborate on a standard policy to protect and promote unaccompanied children's rights in the future.
