KAIRÓS MAJADAHONDA ASSOCIATION. Care and support for children and teenagers at risk of social exclusion, and their families

Description

KAIRÓS MAJADAHONDA is an association that works with children and adolescents at risk of social exclusion and their families, in three different settings within the Community of Madrid (some reception and day-care centres in Pan Bendito and La Ventilla neighbourhoods, and “El Gallinero” Roma slum settlement in La Cañada Real). Here there is a large number of Roma population, and in recent years the proportion of the migrant population has also grown. The coexistence between the different populations often presents some challenges, with high rates of marginalization and crime. The general objectives of the project are: the (a) Integration of children and youth at-risk (educational, social, and labour integration); (b) Integral human promotion of children at risk of social exclusion and/or marginalization; c) To educate children in values and enhance healthy, respectful, and committed ways of life, promoting generosity, commitment, service, and sensitivity to others’ suffering. d) Attend children at-risk, adolescents, their families in their educational and inclusive process, offering them support and presenting them life alternatives. The first time this project was delivered was in 1993 and is still ongoing. The project is founded by “La Caixa” Foundation and Bankia social projects, plus private donations.
